BREAKING NEWS: PM Starts Meeting with Current and Future Government Officials

PHNOM PENH: President of the Cambodian People's Party and current Prime Minister, Hun Sen, started a meeting at 4 pm today with members of the current and upcoming administrations at CPP headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The CPP won 120 seats in the National Assembly following a landslide victory on July 23. As CPP president, Prime Minister Hun Sen nominated his son, Dr. Hun Manet, as the next prime minister. Having been approved by a CPP vote, permission was then sought from the king, who granted Hun Manet’s appointment on August 7 and gave him permission to form a new cabinet of officials.

Hun Manet is currently forming the new cabinet and will seek a confidence vote from the National Assembly on August 21. Pending approval, the new Council of Ministers will officially enter the government’s 7th mandate on August 22. The day marks a significant shift in Cambodian politics, as the world’s longest-serving PM will step down after 38 years in power. Prime Minister Hun Sen said that his resignation is his sacrifice for the people's stability, peace and prosperity.
